Never has there been a better time to celebrate the annual running of the Kentucky Derby at home than during a pandemic. Simple as that. With a bit of planning and tips from an entertaining expert, you can make the day extra special, fun and safe.
“I really do think that even with 10 people or less at your Derby party, you can make it very nice for your guests and a day that you will all be able to have fun,” said Peggy Noe Stevens, entertaining and etiquette professional and co-author of “Which Fork Do I Use With My Bourbon.”
Stevens is referring to Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear’s most recent mandate that gatherings must not be larger than 10 people during the COVID-19 outbreakas we all do our part to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus. Not only that, but any at-home party should adhere to safe social distancing practices and everyone should wear a face mask. (After all, a face mask is the ‘it’ accessory for Kentucky Derby 2020!)
But what if you aren’t quite sure how to safely pull off a party during a pandemic? Stevens walked us through six simple adjustments to ensure the day is filled with fun, friendship and future memories.
After all, a smaller celebration has the potential to be a more elegant and intimate Kentucky Derby Day than you might experience with a bigger blowout. As the host, if you aren’t overseeing and managing a large fête, there’s also the possibility you’ll have more time to have fun at your own party, too.
So saddle up and let’s get planning.
