If you notice more women making, selling and drinking whiskey today than you did ten or even five years ago, you have Peggy Noe Stevens to thank for making a good bit of that gender progress happen. Thursday, Noe Stevens, a master bourbon taster, educator, brand development expert and proponent for making whiskey more accessible to women, became just the eighth female inducted into the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame created and run by the Kentucky Distillers’ Association (KDA).
Together with Katrina Egbert, marketing coordinator for the Wild Turkey Distillery visitor center, Noe Stevens joins four men in the ranks of 90 inductees previously named to the hall of fame since its creation in 2001.
The Louisville native describes how honored she feels to be inducted after a quarter-century career in bourbon.
“After all these years you look back and hope you’ve contributed,” she tells me by phone a few minutes before leaving for the induction ceremony.
